Saint Joan of Arc was still a teenager when she chose courage over fear and followed where she believed God was leading her.
Born into an ordinary French family in the early fifteenth century, Saint Joan became one of the most remarkable figures in the history of the Church. Convinced that God was calling her to help defend France, she stepped into a world of kings, armies, and war with extraordinary confidence. She was eventually captured and executed at only nineteen years old, remaining faithful to Christ until the end.
The words associated with Joan, “I am not afraid. I was born to do this,” capture why her story continues to resonate centuries later. Courage does not mean never feeling fear. It means trusting God enough to move forward when He asks something difficult of us. Saint Joan reminds us that God can work through ordinary people who are willing to answer His call with faith.
