The Blue Scapular comes from the reported visions of Venerable Ursula Benincasa. In 1617, Ursula saw the Blessed Virgin Mary clothed in white and blue, holding the Child Jesus and surrounded by women dressed in the same way.
Jesus revealed that Ursula would establish a community of 33 nuns devoted to prayer and the Immaculate Conception. Ursula then asked that these graces also be extended to people living in the world who would honor Mary’s Immaculate Conception, live chastely according to their state in life, and wear the Blue Scapular as a sign of devotion. She then saw angels carrying these scapulars throughout the earth.
The Blue Scapular is not a charm or a guarantee of salvation. It is a daily reminder to seek purity of heart, trust in Mary’s maternal care, and allow the grace of Christ to transform every part of our lives.
