Abide
Eternal Life isn't just for Heaven.
Jesus tells us that to know the Father is eternal life: "And this is eternal life: That they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
John 17:3
Eternal Life is not simply a future reward waiting for us after death. It begins today through a living relationship with God.
Jesus shows us the path:
"I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."
John 15:5
To follow His commands and abide in Him is the journey of the Christian Life.
Abiding in Christ means learning to surrender our own will and inviting the Father to fill us with the life of His Son. It means turning away from sin, rooting out whatever separates us from God, and allowing Christ to dwell within us.
This is the great invitation of the Christian life:
Not simply to believe in Christ, but to live in Him.
Not simply to admire Him, but to be transformed by Him.
Not simply to wait for eternal life one day, but to begin living in it now by truly confessing our sins, receiving Christ in the Eucharist, and abiding in His real and true love from this moment forward in the state of Grace. Abide in Him because this is where Jesus heals our hearts, and this is where we find the strength to share His love with others.
The saints understood this. They carried their crosses, surrendered themselves to the Father, and allowed Christ to become the center of their lives. Through prayer, repentance, the sacraments, and the Eucharist, they remained connected to the Vine and bore fruit that changed the world.
This is Abide.
A call to remain in Christ.
A call to root out sin.
A call to carry your cross.
A call to know the Father through the Son.
A reminder that eternal life begins today.
